This is the best fucking bar in the universe. There is never a cover and never karaoke. The decorating seems to have been done about 40 years ago and hasn't been touched since. The owners are friendly as hell and can be seen almost every night either tending bar or drinking with the rest of us.
The prices are good considering the strength of the pours. The bartenders are all decent, but if you want a cocktail, order your drinks from Paris (guy with a ponytail). I've never tasted a better Manhattan.
There aren't really any bouncers to speak of, but I've also never seen a fight (bouncers start more fights than anyone else).
Some people try to dance at The Shelter. They are assholes. Don't dance at The Shelter. Get drunk at The Shelter. Meet a cheap tramp at The Shelter. Sing along at The Shelter. But don't fucking dance at The Shelter.
