Bar Review: The Palms Add to My Reviews
This bar is not for the prim or proper. With 50's burlesque queens shaking their tassels for the patrons on the television behind the bar (thank you DVDs) to the western themed lamps on every table (accompanied by a few porno mags) the kitsch at this place goes above and beyond tongue-and-cheek. Patrons range from 21 to 51, nouveau hipster to fully tatted punk, men and women, gay and straight. Everyone is always having a good time, and there is the occasional band playing at the WayOut club next door, which is actually connected to the bar (this is the only reason there would ever be a cover). The first time I went here my friends didn't tell me about the cover and I only had four of the seven dollar required entry fee...and the doorman let me in anyway! This bar is completely without pretense - all cups are plastic and there isn't a fresh garnish in sight. Their beer selection is minimal, but I strongly recommend the old peculiar. It's a hole in the wall, the locals love it, and after my first time I knew I would become a regular!
