Bar Review: Michael Bryan's Irish Pub Add to My Reviews
Michael Bryan's is an Irish-themed pub/restaurant/outdoor dining deck that's part of Wake Robin Inn, in pretty, scenic northwest Connecticut. We were in the area for Lime Rock car racing. Anyway, we stumbled on to the Michael Bryan's after seeing a positive review of it and Wake Robin Inn in The New York Times. Both the pub and the Inn are part of a spectacular setting, atop 11 acres of rolling hills. The food is quite something. It's a comfort menu, but 180 degrees from the traditional Irish bar fare. Guinness is on tap, of course. Think of it as modern Irish and popular with the community and visiting Inn guests alike. The night we were there, the place was hoping with the Friday Happy Hour. Appetizers range from salads to Blue Sky Brie in Pastry (delicious) to Irish Nachos, which substitutes crispy waffle potatoes for tortilla chips. Main entrees range from sole fillets to roasted chicken to Sirloin to a great vegetarian dish called Irish Napolean. And desserts? Everyone in our party had the Pear Crisp with Cinammon Ice-Cream. I opted for their Inn-made Key Lime Tart -- and ended up ordering another. It was that good. The service is friendly, attentive and completely unpretentious. Michael Bryan's and Wake Robin Inn are a find, and less than a two hour drive from New York, too. Thanks!
