Above is a basic single glass recipe; I always make a pitcher, or a one gallon batch. Read on:
In a clean 1 gallon jug, funnel in 2 cans of thawed frozen concentrated lime juice, 2/3 of a can of prepared frozen concentrated orange juice, and 20 ounces of tequila. Fill the rest of jug with water and shake.
I've been asked for this recipe many times. The trick to a margarita, in my opinon is not tasting the tequila, but still feeling the effects. I refuse to buy the expensive margarita mix; and "Triple Sec" is just orange liquor, while Grand Marnier is good in a margarita too, it too is expensive; so I just use orange juice or orange bitters if I have them. Just the same, the tequila has plenty of alcohol to compensate for the alcohols that are ommitted. I'll admit Galliano does make a difference, but have you ever priced it? This recipe is for a gallon of Margaritas. You can add 4 ounces or so of "Extra Dry Vermouth" if you wish, it adds some extra pucker and aromatics. I use "Two Fingers Tequila" or "Jose Cuervo;" nonetheless a quality tequila is not necessary, the lime juice prohibits the quality coming through anyway. Beware that cheap tequila gives you a headache and hangover. You should be able to get three gallons of margaritas out of a 1.75 liter bottle, if you mix it at twenty ounces per gallon. That's 2 ounces of tequila to 12 ounces of margarita mix. You can add more tequila for bite if it suits you. Likewise you can make the sweet and sour, more so sour, and use it for other creations. Add a little [1/2 teaspoon] of powdered, 10X, confectioneer's sugar to your drink if its too tart. Don't forget the sea salt on the rim of the glass.
